San Diego Crew Classic

 In Rowing Directory

Bobbie Smith and Craig Doan talk running a regatta in a pandemic.

01:00 The race started in 1973 to prove the West coast crews could beat the East coast US crews. The rowing season starts here with the San Diego Crew Classic. It’s on 27 March 2021.
03:00 Popular events are masters, juniors and collegiate events. There are invitational events for collegiate crews and all are 8s, quads and fours racing on the water. This year an erg crew option is also offered.
06:00 This year it’s all new. We had 3 plans for the event and hoped for a normal on water regatta. But that was not possible. We are working with Time Team to deliver the team boat erg timing. Instead of averaging a group of erg scores, they constantly merge each athlete’s time into a single time for the whole crew so you cross the line together at the same moment.
08:00 On the water races are also offered with two 1,250m pieces raced in opposite directions.
The final entry day is March 19th.
