Ready, Row! USA: Revving up for Masters Nationals
Welcome to Ready, Row! USA, episode #25!
Why should you race in Masters Nationals? Well for one thing, this year it’s in Grand Rapids, Mich, aka “Beer City, USA.” Today, legendary Olympian Jim Dietz previews US Rowing’s Masters Nationals competition, from the beer tent to how to arrange for a boat to actually race in. “Believe it or not, it’s my first time racing in Nationals,” says Jim, age 70. “I’ve retired from UMass coaching, and now it’s ME time!”
The 2019 US Rowing Masters National Championships will be held August 15-18, 2019, at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids. “There are apparently a record number of entries this year,” says Jim, and he explains some reasons for the increased interest.
